From 3 - 5 June 2019 I attended the Southern Africa Regional Counterterrorism Workshop in Gaborone, Botswana.
I was seconded by the Commissioner of the Peace and Security Directorate, Smail Chergui, African Union to attend. My task was to assist the SADC Region governments with the creation and design of the first ever counterterrorism strategic framework. Assisting the Heads of Intelligence Services of SADC Region, a Counterterrorism Strategy roadmap was developed.

From December 9-17, 2014 I attended a 8 day training course presented by the German Police BKA on Operational Intelligence Analysis at its Headquarters in Algiers.
The training is the continuation of the efforts aimed at giving accrued content to the recommendations emanated from the ACSRT counter terrorism sensitization Missions to Member States, and the decisions of the 2.4 Meeting of the Heads of Intelligence and Security Services of Sahelo-Saharan States held in Abidjan and further reiterated by the N'djamena meeting of 10 and 11 September 2013. In these two meetings, the ACSRT was urged to implement specific capacity building activities in the area of prevention and combating of terrorism for the benefit of AU Member States.
The workshop brought together 32 police and intelligence officers from 14 African countries, namely: Algeria, Benin, Chad, Cote d'Ivore, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Tunisia, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Lesotho.
The training workshop was aimed at enhancing the capacity of African intelligence and police officers to process data and analyze information. The hands-on practical approach methodology applied in the training provided the trainees with the ability to effectively transform raw data and information into actionable operational intelligence in their daily professional activity.

From May 6-26, 2014, I attended, as Specialist Analyst of the African Union Centre for the Study and Research on Terrorism (ACSRT) with representatives of 9 African countries, including also representatives of ECOWAS, ISS, GIABA, Interpol, Gambia Armed Forces, University of Gambia, UNODC, the Anti-Terrorism Seminar for English Speaking African countries in Jinan, Shandong Province, China. This seminar was sponsored by the People's Republic of China's commitment to strengthen global cooperation and exchange of information in the fight against terrorism worldwide. The mission of the seminar was to provide a platform for the sharing of experiences, strengthening co-operation, coordination, linkages, structures and networks to improve counter-terrorism capacities. From March 2006 to December 2006, I was contracted as Special Duty Consultant, by Global Strategies Group (USA) for Operation Hares in Baghdad, Iraq.
My responsibilities were to investigate security violations and terrorism incidents at Baghdad airport as terrorism specialist on Al Qaeda.
I also supported the Quick Reaction Force of Global Stategies Group as intelligence support on perceived/planned attacks of Al Qaeda on Baghdad airport, base camps of international contractors in Baghdad.
As Aviation Security Trainer/Mentor, I trained a team of 20 Iraqi security staff in aviation security, anti-smuggling, counterterrorism, law enforcement.
From February 2001 to November 2005, I was part of the South African Revenue Service Anti Smuggling Unit.
Based at Vioolsdrift Border Control between South Africa and Namibia, I was tasked to prevent the smuggling of diamonds, weapons/ammunition, undeclared consumer goods, crimes of tax evasion, illegal immigration, illegal wildlife smuggling, cigarette smuggling, stolen vehicle smuggling.
In close cooperation with the South African Police, South African Defence Force, Namibian Police, Namibian Revenue Service, I gathered information on activities of transnational crime syndicates operating between South Africa and Namibia.
The intelligence reports, assessments and strategic pro-active advisory reports on countering transnational organized crime syndicated was shared with law enforcement agencies in South Africa and Namibia.
From November 1994 to September 2000, I was an intelligence analyst at the Military Intelligence Directorate, South African Defence Force.
As an officer with the rank of Captain, my responsibilities were to prepare intelligence reports, threat vulnerability assessments for the Defence Force.
My area of responsibility was gathering of intelligence, analysis into information regarding security, terrorism threats against South Africa.
From February 1991 to October 1994, I was the senior intelligence analyst for the SADC Region at the Research Directorate (N21) for the South African National Intelligence Service
As specialist intelligence analyst for the South African National Intelligence Service, Directorate N, I was responsible for strategic/tactical intelligence. This intelligence was derived from data mining; identification/tasking of human intelligence sources, data sourcing from electronic intelligence sources (ELINT); signal intellicence (SIGINT); open information sources (OSINT), and human intelligence sources (HUMINT). The intelligence was then analysed by me and produced into Intelligence Reports for the top management of the National Intelligence Agency of South Africa; the State Security Council; the President' council, members of the South African Parliament, the South African Police Intelligence Service' the Military Intelligence Service and the Department of Foreign Affairs of South Africa. My speciality region of responsibility was South Africa, Lesotho, Eswathini, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique.
